Bilge Pump Float Switch — Automatic Water Level Controller for Boats & RVs
Product description
Includes a single float switch assembly with a detachable snap-on base and approximately 1.0 m (3.3 ft) of pre-wired heavy-gauge copper cable. The unit is designed to work with 12V, 24V and 32V DC systems and supports common bilge pump capacities in the 350–3700 GPH range.
The switch is set to engage the pump when the water surface reaches roughly 2.0 inches (51 mm) and to turn the pump off when the level falls to about 0.75 inches (19 mm). Internal metal contacts provide the switching action and the device is rated for many thousands of cycles (typical operational life around 10,000 actuations), helping to automate bilge maintenance and prevent pump burnout from dry-running.
Constructed from robust thermoplastic (ABS/nylon-class materials) with ultrasonic sealing, the housing is fully watertight and ignition-protected. The assembly is made without mercury and uses corrosion-resistant components so it can be used in both fresh and salt water environments.
The mounting base snaps on and can be installed on either the hull bottom or a side wall; the trigger height can be adjusted by inserting or removing spacers beneath the base to suit different bilge geometries. The removable design also simplifies cleaning and routine checks.
Wiring uses a stout 18 AWG copper conductor that runs about 1 m from the switch for a low-resistance connection to your pump circuit. When paired with a compatible pump, the switch forms a simple automatic on/off system that reduces manual monitoring and protects the pump from idle running or overheating.
Pros
- Automatic dry-run protection
- Saltwater-ready, mercury-free construction
- Detachable base for side or bottom mounting
Cons
- Periodic cleaning recommended in dirty bilges
- Designed for DC systems only
- Not intended for continuous extreme-current loads
VerdictA practical automatic bilge controller that prevents dry-running and manages water levels without supervision. Saltwater-tolerant construction and a detachable mounting base make it versatile for small boats, yachts, and RV bilges. Well suited for most mid-range pumps where simple, reliable level control is needed.

Does the job
No issues so far using it with a small bilge pump in a Jon boat. I ran a few tests with a hose and it always kicked the pump on and off as expected. Time will tell on long-term durability, but performance has been solid to date.
