25 ft Retractable Steel Tape Measure — Self-Locking Imperial/Metric
Product description
What you get
This listing contains one 25-foot (7.6 m) retractable tape measure with a single locking switch and an integrated release for safe, one-handed operation.
Locking and operation
The top-mounted locking lever holds the blade at the length you pull out until you press the release, allowing solo measurements without constant pressure. The retraction is controlled so the blade returns smoothly rather than snapping back. The end hook is secured to allow accurate inside and outside measurements.
Measurements and markings
The steel blade carries both imperial and metric graduations—clear inch markings plus centimeter and millimeter divisions—so it works for projects using either system. Standard stud and fraction markers are printed large for easy reading from a short distance.
Materials and durability
The tape blade is made from hardened steel with a full protective coating along the length to resist abrasion. The outer surface has a high-temperature baked finish that helps repel water, reduce rust, and resist staining. The case is molded from impact-grade plastic and shaped to fit comfortably in the hand.
Who it’s for
This tape is suitable for homeowners, hobbyists, decorators, and many tradespeople for routine measuring tasks. It also makes a practical gift for anyone who does DIY, woodworking, or light construction. If you have concerns after purchase, customer support is available to help resolve issues.
Pros
- One-handed auto-lock and controlled retraction
- Clear imperial and metric markings including mm/cm/in
- Coated steel blade and rust-resistant finish
Cons
- Plastic housing can crack if dropped repeatedly
- Not the most heavy-duty option for daily contractor use
- Belt clip and rivets vary in quality
VerdictA reliable 25 ft steel tape that balances affordability and functionality. It locks securely with one hand, retracts smoothly, and shows both inches and metric units clearly. The blade and hook are protected against wear, making it fine for general contracting and home projects, though heavy-drop durability is limited by the plastic case.

Handy addition to the kitchen drawer
I wanted a low-profile tape to keep in the kitchen so my nicer ones don’t disappear. This little tape surprised me with its build for the cost. I’d buy it again—don’t underestimate this compact option.

Dependable 25 ft tape with smooth self-locking
Practical and simple to use around the house. The 25 ft length covers most room and furniture measurements. The lock holds the blade without having to press constantly, and the retraction is smooth and controlled. Markings are easy to read in both metric and imperial. The steel blade feels solid and the case is comfortable to grip.

Not suited for heavy contractor use
If you’re a contractor, I’d skip this—its plastic case feels like it will crack if dropped. It does function, so homeowners will be fine, but it’s not built for daily jobsite abuse. I used it for home repairs and gave it four stars because it works, just lacks ruggedness.

The one tape I always reach for
I own many tapes but this was my go-to. It lived in my bench until it fell, cracked the case and ruined the lock. I hunted down the same model and was relieved when the replacement arrived; it matches the accuracy and readability I need with both metric and US scales.

Good value despite labeling quirks
I chose this because it offered SAE and metric and had few reviews. It seems well-made so far and checks out for accuracy. The end hook has minimal play (about 0.8 mm) and the locking mechanism works reliably. One rivet was a touch loose but the others were fine. The grip feels semi-rubbery, the clip and strap are acceptable, and the recoil is strong but not excessive.
