12V Linear Bench Power Supply — 12A Regulated AC-to-DC Converter
Product description
Overview:
This compact bench-top converter is a linear/regulated AC-to-DC power supply designed to provide a steady 12V class DC output for hobby and bench applications. It is intended for powering devices such as cellular phones, CB radios, scanners, ham radio equipment, actuators, avionics test gear and other 12V accessories that require a constant DC source.
Connections and wiring:
The unit is fitted with universal screw-type hardwire terminals to accept a variety of connectors and ring or spade lugs. Terminals are color-marked red for positive (+) and black for negative (–) to make wiring straightforward for test setups and permanent bench installations. The screw-style output makes it useful for equipment testing, bench wiring and powering devices without requiring added adapters.
Operation:
Power is supplied via a standard 115V AC inlet and the device operates as a simple plug-in unit with a front-panel on/off switch. It is designed to provide a steady DC supply so external batteries are not required for testing or running 12V accessories. The regulated design holds voltage close to the rated value for consistent operation of sensitive electronics.
Safety and protection:
Built-in electronic overload and short-circuit protection help protect both the operator and connected equipment. The supply includes a fuse with auto-reset behavior and circuitry to limit current in fault conditions, improving safety for desktop or tabletop use.
Cooling and power output:
The housing incorporates a cabinet heatsink and an internal cooling fan to manage heat during sustained use. Rated continuous current is 12.0 A with a 14.0 A surge capability. Nominal DC output is 13.8V and the input requirement is 115V AC at 60Hz with a rated power capacity of 270W. These figures make it suitable for moderate bench loads.
Construction and dimensions:
The unit is built into a rugged metal housing suitable for tabletop placement and repeated handling. The compact footprint measures approximately 7.9" x 7.2" x 4.7" (L x W x H). The package includes the bench-top power converter unit itself; wiring and external connectors are not supplied. Terminal spacing accommodates common lug types for secure connections.
Pros
- Regulated 13.8V DC output with 12A continuous current
- Sturdy screw-type terminals for secure hardwiring
- Heatsink plus built-in fan and electronic protections
Cons
- Heavy for portable use
- Can run warm under sustained loads
- Requires spade/eyelet or lug connectors for outputs
VerdictA reliable, no-frills linear bench supply for hobbyists and lab users who need a steady 12V DC source. It provides solid output current, straightforward screw terminals for hardwiring, and protection circuitry. The metal housing and heatsink plus an active cooling fan keep it stable under load. Ideal for bench work and powering radios, avionics test rigs, actuators and other 12V devices, though it

Good capacity and accurate voltage
The 12A capability is handy and the output sits right at 13.8V. First unit arrived damaged but the replacement worked despite a beaten box. Packaging protected the contents and it’s powering avionics on my bench.

Almost-new purchase was fine
Voltage measured 13.9V on arrival and the case was flawless. I added an external fan because it can run warm. Uses spade or eyelet terminals for the 12V outputs. Saved money buying a lightly used unit and would buy again.

Gets warm but works
It heats up under load and I found only a heatsink rather than a strong fan on my unit. Running a telescope and accessories at about 3.5A it performs fine; the power jacks fit standard dual banana plugs. Overall seems robust so far.

Heavy but functional
This is a heavy unit and it works just fine.

Insufficient for some appliances
In my experience it didn’t provide enough power for certain 12V appliances I tried; I wouldn’t recommend it for heavier loads.

Better for bench than field
Works as expected but is heavier than I thought. I wanted something less bulky for portable use; this will likely stay on the bench most of the time.
