YESWELDER ER70S-6 .030 in MIG Wire — Copper-Coated Carbon Steel on ABS Spool
Product description
Product composition: This is ER70S-6 solid MIG welding wire made from copper-coated mild carbon steel. The wire contains higher levels of manganese and silicon deoxidizers to promote stable arc characteristics and allow higher welding currents without excessive porosity.
Shielding compatibility: Use this wire with either straight CO2 (100%) or a blended shielding gas such as 80% argon / 20% CO2. Select the shielding gas appropriate for your joint design and desired penetration profile.
Performance notes: The chemistry helps produce smoother weld beads with reduced post-weld cleanup and better performance on sheet metal at elevated amperages. It performs well on single- and multi-pass welds and is forgiving on poor fit-up or slightly contaminated surfaces.
Applications: Typical uses include construction steelwork, farm equipment and implements, shaft and wear buildup, tank fabrication, truck body repair, general shop fabrication, auto body patches, and other structural or earthwork-related repairs where a solid carbon steel wire is suitable.
Packaging and spool: The wire is wound on a robust spool molded from new ABS plastic. The spool is designed to tolerate handling and to feed cleanly in common MIG machines and external-feed shields.
Specifications: Supplied weight: 2 lbs. Diameter: 0.030 in (0.8 mm). Wire type: ER70S-6, copper-coated solid carbon steel.
Pros
- Good feedability and steady arc
- Strong ABS spool resists damage
- Versatile for many general welding jobs
Cons
- Not as ultra-smooth as premium brands
- Only one diameter/weight option shown
- Not a flux-cored product for out-of-position work
VerdictA reliable, budget-friendly .030" ER70S-6 solid MIG wire for general-purpose welding. The chemistry (elevated manganese and silicon) lets you run higher currents—especially with 100% CO2—while producing a tidy bead with minimal cleanup. The copper coating aids feedability and corrosion resistance, and the tough ABS spool resists damage during transport and machine use. Not the ultra-premium option

Performs cleanly
Welds cleanly and feeds without issue. Didn’t test spool strength claims.

Not my favorite
It worked, but I preferred another brand after two rolls. My beads improved when I switched.

Dependable for routine shop work
We weld a lot; this wire costs much less and rarely gives problems. Premium brands run a touch smoother, but only noticeable with high-end gear. I use a few hundred pounds a year and this does the job—money saved.
