SÜA 300 Amp Stick Welding Electrode Holder (AF3 Style)
Product description
Designed for stick welding tasks up to 300 amps at a 60% duty cycle, this AF3-style electrode holder is intended for light to medium work. The unit accepts welding leads up to AWG 2/0, providing a stable current path for consistent arcs.
The jaws are sized to grip electrodes up to 1/4 inch (6.35 mm) and are constructed from sturdy conductive metal to ensure good contact. The handle is made from glass-filled nylon for impact resistance, electrical insulation, and improved heat tolerance during typical welding sessions.
Assembly and connection are straightforward: the welding cable is clamped under the internal insert and tightened with the set screw; the electrode is held in the jaw and secured by the thumb screw. The package also includes a couple of small metal accessories commonly used to improve the lead-to-holder connection or to act as shims when needed.
For users requiring higher current capability, a 500 amp AF-50 version is available, offering larger electrodes and heavier-duty performance while retaining the same basic design and ergonomics.
Pros
- Comfortable, insulated glass-filled nylon handle
- Accepts AWG 2/0 cable and up to 1/4" electrodes
- Reliable 300A rating at a 60% duty cycle
Cons
- Handle sleeve held by a single internal screw that can loosen
- Not intended for relentless, commercial daily use
- Basic connection parts may require minor modification for perfect fit
VerdictA solid, economical electrode holder for hobbyists and occasional contractors. It delivers reliable 300A performance with a comfortable, shock-resistant handle and accepts heavy welding cables. The internal clamp and set screw hold rods securely, though the simple sleeve-retention method may not suit continuous, heavy daily use. Good value for intermittent stick welding jobs.

Short lived under heavy use
Failed after about a week of frequent 1/8" 7018 welding. If you weld every day, invest in a more robust holder.

Lightweight and functional
Very light but grips 1/8" and 5/32" rods without issue. Performs well for casual welding.

No instructions but adaptable
Package arrived without any directions. The brass jaws and strong spring clamp 1/16" rods up to larger sizes. Two small metal pieces were included but not explained; I used a wrapped copper shim and made an aluminum insert to bridge the oversized opening and secure the welding lead. After drilling and tapping the insert to match the set screw, the fit and electrical contact were excellent.

Solid performance, minor fitment quirk
Initial impressions were good — welds cleanly and feels more robust than the brittle plastic holder it replaced. The handle retention uses a single screw that was stiff on mine, like the hole was slightly out of round, so I may add some thread locker if it loosens. Took about a minute to swap in and ran several 1/8" 6013 rods smoothly.

Great replacement for OEM holder
Worked perfectly with my Everlast Cyclone 212. Jaws clamp the electrode tightly and installation was straightforward. Satisfied with the fit and function.

Good value, some design compromises
Built from quality materials and easy to install. The insulating sleeve is only retained by a push screw, which could let the handle slip over time. Fine for occasional use, but consider a heavier-duty unit for daily work.
