Sharp Paperless Digital Desk Adding Machine (EL-1901) White
Product description
Paperless digital tape: The EL-1901 replaces physical paper with an editable, scrolling digital tape displayed on a large 12-digit LCD. You can scroll through recent entries, insert or correct lines, and clear the tape when you’re finished.
Key layout and feel: Full-sized numeric and function keys provide a responsive, familiar feel so data entry is quick and precise. The machine is intended as an adding machine-style desk calculator with standard accounting functions rather than a scientific calculator.
Memory and editing: The unit stores up to 300 line items so you can review and amend past entries without starting over. A simple review and delete sequence clears the running list when desired.
Operation and build: Designed to operate quietly compared with paper-and-ink devices, the calculator includes an adjustable tilt display to reduce glare and improve readability. The housing is durable molded plastic in white and is built for regular office use.
What’s in the box and use: The package includes the EL-1901 desk adding machine and the required power adapter for mains operation. The device is intended for stationary, desktop use; some users have adapted it for battery operation with external components, though the unit is supplied for AC power out of the box.

Perfect for adding tasks, not for scientific calc needs
If your work is adding and tallying, this is excellent. For arithmetic-heavy calculator tasks it’s not the same thing—this is built as an adding machine, and it does that extremely well.

High-quality but fairly large
A wonderfully made device, though it’s on the larger side compared with some compact models.

Does not run on batteries — requesting return
I put new batteries in but the calculator only works when plugged in. It won’t power on from batteries; I want a refund.

Solid, compact replacement
Switched from an older Sharp. It is sturdy, compact and easy to read. Some keys are in slightly different positions, so allow a little time to adapt. I would buy it again.

No more paper or ribbon hassles
I love not having to load rolls or replace ink ribbons. The screen can act weird if you press it, but it typically resets after a few minutes. Clean gently with a microfiber cloth and use the scroll + second + delete sequence to wipe the tape.

Surprised how much I like paperless adding
I doubted a paperless model at first, but it keeps and lets you review line items, correct mistakes and even insert lines midlist. Angle adjustment makes it comfortable for different users, and it has the familiar adding-machine feel without the noise of paper and ink.

Indispensable for print-style users
Strange as it may sound, some of us still prefer adding machines. This feels as effective as a roll printer but without buying paper or ink pads. The ability to edit mistakes after entry is invaluable—highly recommended.

CPA-friendly layout and functionality
As a longtime accountant, I appreciate the straightforward keyboard and blue display. It reads like a traditional adding machine and is easy to navigate without extra markup features. The reset requires a pen tip—which is quick and simple—and the footprint is smaller than many tape machines.

Works well and can be modified for battery use
Unit ships for AC power, but you can rig a 4xAA battery pack to run it (the adapter supplies about 6V). I used rechargeable cells and gave it long run times. Requires a small clip and holder if you want a portable setup.

Big upgrade from my old printing machine
Replaced a decade-old printing unit and love the digital tape. I can see recent entries at a glance and keep the display tilted for a running list. There’s a quick three-step way to clear everything when done—learn it because it isn’t obvious in the manual. Stores up to 300 lines and feels reliable.
