iFi GO Link 2 — Portable DAC and Headphone Amplifier
Product description
The GO Link 2 is a USB-C portable DAC and headphone amplifier intended to elevate headphone listening from phones, tablets and computers. The package includes the compact GO Link 2 chassis and its attached braided cable assembly designed to plug directly into a USB-C source and accept a 3.5mm headphone connection.
The enclosure is precision-milled from aluminium alloy to keep weight down while remaining durable; iFi states the design is about 8% smaller and roughly 29% lighter than its predecessor. Internally, the unit uses silver-plated, twisted copper conductors for the signal path between the body and the jack, providing lower resistance and improved transfer compared with basic wiring.
At the heart of the device is an ESS DAC that decodes Hi-Res audio up to 32-bit/384kHz PCM and native DSD256. iFi’s processing includes dynamic range enhancement that can add up to 6 dB of apparent dynamics and THD compensation aimed at reducing distortion by a significant percentage. An S-Balanced output topology reduces crosstalk between channels for a cleaner stereo image.
Control and customization are handled via iFi’s mobile app, which lets you select filters and tailor the sound. In use you simply plug the GO Link 2 into a USB-C port, connect headphones to its jack, and adjust levels on the host device; the unit supplies ample gain for a wide range of headphones. As with any compact DAC/amp, the cable junction is a point to treat with care to preserve long-term reliability.
Pros
- Compact, lightweight aluminium build
- Hi-Res ESS decoding to 32-bit/384kHz and DSD256
- S-Balanced output and app-adjustable filters
Cons
- High output can surprise unprotected ears
- Cable junction is the most fragile area
- Some users report volume inconsistencies on reconnect
VerdictCompact, well-built and sonically capable, the GO Link 2 delivers a clear upgrade over onboard phone or laptop audio. Its ESS DAC, dynamic-range and distortion compensation, and S-Balanced output provide a noticeable improvement in detail, dynamics and channel separation. Some users report very high output and occasional volume quirks, and the cable junction is the unit’s most vulnerable point. If

Good sound but the cable is annoying
Audio quality is solid, but I found the wired setup frustrating to manage all the time and switched to a wireless alternative for convenience.

Big difference when driving phone headphones
Using it with phone-stored music and low-ohm portable cans added the volume and clarity they were missing. Simple plug-and-play, no bells and whistles needed.

Dramatic improvement to everyday listening
After years of using inexpensive dongles, switching to this brought much clearer detail, wider stereo spread and a greater sense of space. My only worry is the soft braided wire — time will tell how durable it is.

Bass not neutral, problematic for studio use
I expected a flat response for professional monitoring, but the low end is exaggerated by a noticeable amount. Not ideal if you need true studio neutrality.

Music sounds completely different — great buy
A clear step up when connected to my phone; tracks gain clarity and presence. If you enjoy headphone listening, it’s a worthwhile addition.

Powerful volume boost
Pumps up the volume noticeably — my Sony 1000XM6 get a serious gain in loudness and presence. Works very well, but be cautious: the output can be intense and cheaper headphones might not cope.

Tiny DAC with surprisingly serious credentials
Feels far more than a simple adapter: ESS DAC, Hi-Res PCM 384k/DSD256 support, S-Balanced output and a compact, refined finish. The braided cable and reinforced ends feel superior to cheap plastic dongles, though the cable area still merits careful handling.

Excellent upgrade for iPhone listening
Transformed my iPhone’s sound. Paired with a new set of Grado cans, the listening experience is much better — very happy overall.

Could produce sudden loud noise
It worked fine briefly, then started producing loud screeching/static bursts when resuming playback. I couldn’t stop it and returned the unit — not safe for sensitive ears.

Volume changes on reconnection
Sound is very good, but it alters output level each time I plug it back in, which is annoying and unpredictable.

Solves noisy PC audio but has a tiny delay
My motherboard’s audio had hum and interference; this unit made playback dead silent and detailed. There’s a short lag before it reaches full volume, which can be an issue when editing. A silent looping track as a workaround worked for me.

Once used, hard to return to stock audio
No regrets — the jump in fidelity was immediate and I wouldn’t go back. Highly recommended for anyone who cares about sound quality.

Five stars but beware of sudden blasts
Detail and clarity are excellent and the cable seems reasonably sturdy. However, I experienced a terrifying full-volume blast once while using a Samsung phone that hurt my ears. Check it thoroughly before trusting it.
