FILMCITY DSLR Shoulder Rig Kit with Matte Box & Convertible Cage
Product description
Built for cinematic camera setups: This kit is intended to control stray light and stabilize handheld shots on documentaries, music videos, interviews and event coverage. It works with standard DSLRs, mirrorless cameras and many camcorders, providing shading and basic rigging options for a variety of shoots.
Comfort and balance for long takes: A padded shoulder cushion pairs with an adjustable counterweight to reduce shoulder and arm fatigue during extended handheld use. Textured rubber handgrips give a secure hold for over/under and free-floating shots, and the rig is designed to be comfortable for extended run-and-gun workflows.
Adjustable cage and mounting flexibility: The convertible cage brackets adjust between roughly 9" and 6" and are molded from polyamide resin to fit cinema-style and full-frame camera bodies. Multiple threaded accessory mounts let you attach external monitors, microphones and other peripherals. A soft-grip top handle enables low-angle or ‘low-mode’ shooting.
MB-600 matte box and filter system: The included MB-600 matte box accepts 4x4" filters and comes with two rotating 4x4" filter trays plus interchangeable 4:3 and 16:9 format masks. The matte box accommodates lenses up to about 95mm diameter and uses an elastic hood that wraps the lens barrel to block unwanted light.
What’s in the kit and pedigree: The package combines the shoulder rig platform, convertible cage brackets, a counterweight, top handle, textured handgrips, 15mm support rods and the MB-600 matte box with filter trays and format masks. The manufacturer has been supplying camera support gear worldwide for decades and this design reflects a balance of cost-conscious materials and practical, on-set functionality.
Pros
- Comprehensive kit with matte box and adaptable cage
- Comfort-oriented with shoulder pad and counterweight
- Accepts 4x4" filters and multiple format masks
Cons
- Major structural parts are resin rather than full metal
- Some knobs and fittings require careful tightening
- Heavier setups need a solid tripod or support
VerdictA feature-rich starter-to-intermediate rig that brings professional styling and useful camera control without a heavy price tag. The kit combines a shoulder pad and counterweight for longer handheld comfort, convertible 9–6" polyamide resin cage brackets for a wide range of bodies, and the MB-600 matte box that accepts two rotating 4x4" filters plus 4:3 and 16:9 masks. Gives a more professional appearance
Very good overall. I worry the material may wear under heavy loads, but for starting out or improving a set’s look, it’s worth it.

Makes small cameras look and perform bigger
Bought it to dress and balance my Canon 700D and later used with a Sony FS700. The matte box and hood really upgrade the look. You’ll likely need step-up rings for standard lenses and may choose to swap parts as you upgrade, but for the price it’s great value and attention-grabbing.

Solid addition to our toolkit
Pleased so far. The rigid plastic body keeps things lightweight yet steady, and our production value looks better on shoots. Will look at more products from this line as our crew expands.

Well packaged and really improves handheld shots
Arrived quickly and very well packed. Assembly instructions were straightforward and everything locks up securely. I use a Canon 70D and still have easy access to the battery and SD slots. Make sure your tripod can carry the extra weight, but handheld shots are noticeably smoother with the rig. Recommended as a starter setup.

Excellent option for beginners and intermediates
Great starter kit — many parts are durable resin but feel robust. I replaced a few items as I learned more, but straight from the box it gives a professional look. Shipping was quick and setup was easy. Highly recommended for newcomers building a rig.

Outstanding flexibility — pro features
In decades of production I’ve had expensive rigs that weren’t this versatile. I can mount anything from a DSLR up to heavier cinema bodies and use it on a Steadicam, boom or tripod. The handle is very sturdy and the configuration options are excellent. I’m ordering several more for our inventory.

Good all-around kit for a car-ready rig
I’m a professional producer who wanted a couple of grab-and-go rigs for pop-up shoots. It packs the most features I found at this level. The main structure is durable resin with metal rods — be mindful not to overtighten the knobs. The matte box alone is a great addition. I use a separate high-end follow focus, and the counterweight helps with heavier cine lenses. For a compact, feature-filled rig this is a solid choice.
