APEXEL 50mm Portrait Telephoto Lens for Smartphones — F1.05 Aperture
Product description
True 2× optical magnification
This portrait optic provides genuine 2× magnification using high-quality lanthanum glass elements so the phone’s sensor retains detail without digital upscaling or artificial sharpening. Fine textures like hair and skin are preserved.
50mm equivalent focal length
Designed to emulate a classic 50mm field of view, the lens avoids the exaggerated wide-angle perspective that distorts faces. It flatters subjects at typical portrait distances, from roughly 1.5 meters out to infinity.
F1.05 ultra-large aperture
An extremely wide physical aperture gathers more light than standard phone lenses, helping maintain brightness in dim scenes and producing true optical bokeh. The shallow depth of field is achieved optically rather than by computational blur.
Professional optical construction
The optical formula uses seven elements arranged in six groups of low-dispersion lanthanum glass. Nano FMC (fully multi-coated) surfaces reduce reflections and ghosting, while internal blackening suppresses stray light for consistent contrast and color fidelity.
Compatibility and accessories
The kit connects to smartphones with the supplied universal clip (17mm mount spec listed), fitting many devices including iPhone, Samsung, Pixel and OnePlus models. The lens features a 72mm front thread compatible with standard filters. Packaged weight is approximately 0.77 lb (350 g) including the storage bag; the set ships with the universal clip, a protective storage bag, front and rear lens caps, and a cleaning cloth.
Note on flare
Under very strong or direct lighting you may see ghosting or flare on the image. Adding a 72mm lens hood (sold separately) helps reduce glare and improve contrast in such situations.
Pros
- Authentic 2× optical magnification
- Very wide F1.05 aperture for real bokeh and low-light shots
- Sturdy optical design with 72mm filter thread
Cons
- Relatively heavy and bulky for some phones
- Clip may not hold securely with thick cases
- Can show flare in bright, direct lighting without a hood
VerdictThis lens converts a phone camera into a portrait-capable optic: genuine 2× optical zoom, a natural 50mm field of view and a very wide F1.05 opening that yields authentic bokeh and improved low-light capture. Optical construction (7 elements/6 groups of low-dispersion lanthanum glass) and FMC coatings keep images sharp and colors faithful, edge to edge. Practical for events and portraits, but cons

Not ideal for newest iPhones
Didn’t work well with iPhone 15/16 models and the fit felt off. Image quality also wasn't as impressive as I hoped.

Does the job
Performs well with minimal distortion.

Quality glass
They’re glass lenses and I liked each of them. They feel weighty and well-made.

Not compatible with all phones
The clip design fails to grip securely when a protective case is present, and even without a case it sometimes slips. I returned mine—good idea, poor execution for some models.

Surprisingly substantial kit
The lenses are larger than I expected and feel like miniature camera lenses rather than toy attachments. They include a solid case and clear usage tips. They improved shots on my older phone—planning to use them on an upcoming cruise.

Too heavy for me
Nice optics, but the weight and size didn't suit my setup and it wouldn't fit over my phone case.

Arrived fast and ready
Delivered quickly and worked right away. Very helpful for getting more zoom—looking forward to trying different subjects.

Solid kit and protective case
Comes with a sturdy hard case that fits in a bag but is bulky for small purses. Lenses deliver crisp images; the clip is a bit heavy on an iPhone but overall I'm happy and would buy another for backup.

A little fiddly but very useful
I like the range the kit adds to my phone. Mounting and fine-tuning the threaded connection takes patience to avoid cross-threading, but once secured the lenses broaden my shooting options considerably.

More toy than pro
Good build materials, but I didn't notice real sharpness gains. Fun to use, just don't expect DSLR-level image quality.

Worth the investment!
My first clip arrived tricky to align, so I reached out to support and they promptly replaced it. With the correct clip positioning the lenses produce impressive results—no digital crop needed. The telephoto is my go-to for concerts and events; the macro requires getting very close but works well once you learn the spacing.

Great value and quality
Simple to attach to my Pixel 3 XL and the results impressed me. Lens caps for each piece are handy when you don't want to tote the whole case. I'll likely buy extras as gifts.

Excellent build for the range
Very solid construction and the best kit I’ve found in this category. Plenty of tutorials online to get the most from it.
